A joint security team comprising Police operatives, Forest Guards and members of the Neighbourhood Watch Group has rescued one of three persons abducted by armed men in Affa Community, Udi Local Government Area of Enugu State.

The abduction occurred in the early hours of Sunday, August 2, 2026, within the precinct of a church at Inoyi, Affa Community. According to the Enugu State Police Command, security operatives swiftly launched a coordinated operation and, while closing in on the fleeing suspects, forced them to abandon one of the victims, who was rescued unharmed. The assailants, however, escaped with the remaining two victims.

The Commissioner of Police in Enugu State, CP Mamman Bitrus Giwa, has directed the Area Commander, Oji-River, and the Head of the Command’s Violent Crime Response Unit (VCRU) to intensify ongoing operations and deploy all available operational assets to ensure the safe rescue of the two remaining victims and the arrest of the suspects.

The Commissioner also instructed the Assistant Commissioner of Police in charge of the State Intelligence Department (SID) to generate actionable human and technical intelligence to support the rescue operation. In addition, the surveillance and technical capabilities of the Enugu State Command-and-Control Centre have been activated to strengthen efforts aimed at tracking down the kidnappers.

CP Giwa appealed to residents of Affa Community and neighbouring areas to remain calm and continue supporting security agencies with credible and timely information that could aid the rescue mission and the apprehension of those responsible for the attack.

He assured the public that the Command is deploying every available resource to secure the release of the remaining victims and ensure the perpetrators are brought to justice.

The Enugu State Police Command urged members of the public with useful information to contact the following emergency lines 08032003702, 08086671202, 112, 09134666668, or 09134448093, or via email at pproenugu@npf.gov.ng or report through the Command’s official communication channels as investigations and rescue operations continue.

The Police Public Relations Officer, SP Daniel Ndukwe, reaffirmed the Command’s commitment to protecting lives and property, noting that security agencies remain resolute in their efforts to combat criminal activities across Enugu State.
