Nigerian music star Davido has expressed support for couples maintaining separate bank accounts, saying both partners should have personal finances for their own financial security.

Speaking on The Uncut Podcast, Davido was asked whether he believes women should have secret bank accounts away from their partners.

The singer said he sees nothing wrong with the idea and believes the same principle should apply to both men and women.

“Yeah, I think it’s good. I actually think they should; you never know. If I ever found out that my wife had a secret bank account, I’d not be angry; I think everybody should have their own.”

Davido explained that financial independence is important because no one knows what the future may bring. He said both partners should be financially prepared and capable of standing on their own if circumstances change.

He maintained that having personal accounts does not necessarily undermine a relationship, stressing that everyone should have some level of individual financial independence.

“I think everybody should have their own,” he added.
