A Chief Magistrate Court in Abuja has struck out the criminal case filed by the Nigeria Police against social media activist Martins Vincent Otse, popularly known as VeryDarkMan (VDM), citing a lack of evidence.
The court’s decision, delivered on Tuesday, effectively discharged and acquitted the activist of the allegations brought against him.
Reacting to the judgment in a video shared on Instagram, VeryDarkMan expressed relief, saying the legal battle, which lasted about two years, had finally come to an end.
The case stemmed from allegations that he impersonated a police officer by wearing a Nigerian Police uniform without authorisation, an offence for which he was arraigned in 2024.
VeryDarkMan was granted ₦2 million bail in November 2024 after pleading not guilty to the charge. The case followed a viral video in which he referred to himself as a Chief Superintendent of Police (CSP) and described himself as Nigeria’s “number one online police officer.”
With the court’s ruling, the matter has now been brought to a close.
