The Chief Justice of Nigeria (CJN), Justice Kudirat Kekere-Ekun, has sworn in 68 legal practitioners as Senior Advocates of Nigeria (SANs) during a ceremony marking the commencement of the 2026/2027 legal year.
The Nigerian Television Authority (NTA) disclosed this on Monday through its official X account.
The swearing-in ceremony marked a significant milestone for the newly elevated lawyers, who have attained one of the highest professional distinctions in Nigeria’s legal profession.
The rank of Senior Advocate of Nigeria is conferred on legal practitioners in recognition of their professional standing, competence and contributions to the development of law and the administration of justice.
Recipients are selected based on established criteria, including professional experience, integrity and their contributions to the legal profession.
The conferment process is overseen by the Legal Practitioners’ Privileges Committee (LPPC), which reviews applications and determines eligible candidates in accordance with the guidelines governing the award.
The ceremony also coincided with the formal commencement of the 2026/2027 legal year.
