A Federal High Court sitting in Lagos has sentenced a Canada returnee, Abimbola Daniel, to 11 years in prison for unlawfully importing and possessing 2.5 kilogrammes of cannabis.
Justice Akintayo Aluko handed down the sentence on Monday after Daniel pleaded guilty to a two-count charge brought against him by the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency.
The court’s decision followed the prosecution’s case against the convict over the illegal importation and possession of the prohibited substance.
Daniel’s conviction adds to the series of prosecutions by the NDLEA as the agency intensifies its efforts to curb the trafficking and distribution of illicit drugs across Nigeria.
