The Taraba State Independent Electoral Commission (TSIEC) has announced plans to conduct bye-elections in Donga, Wukari and Jalingo Local Government Areas to fill vacant councillorship positions.

The vacancies arose following the death and resignation of some councillors.

TSIEC Chairman, Dr Bala Job Aji, disclosed this on Tuesday while receiving delegations from the National Council of Women Societies (NCWS) and the management of Gift FM Jalingo.

Aji said the Taraba State Government had approved the conduct of the bye-elections to fill the vacant positions in the three local government areas.

He described the visits as timely, emphasising the importance of collaboration with stakeholders, particularly women’s organisations and the media, in mobilising residents and promoting credible grassroots elections.

The TSIEC chairman reaffirmed the commission’s commitment to building strong partnerships with relevant organisations to ensure the successful conduct of its electoral responsibilities.

He assured the visiting delegations that they would be involved in the commission’s future activities, noting that their support would help promote public awareness and participation in the electoral process.

Earlier, representatives of the NCWS and Gift FM Jalingo pledged their organisations’ support for the commission and expressed their readiness to collaborate with it to promote credible elections and contribute to the development of Taraba State and Nigeria.

The delegations also called for sustained cooperation among stakeholders to strengthen democratic participation and electoral processes in the state.

The TSIEC leadership reiterated its commitment to conducting free, fair and credible elections across Taraba State.
