Dangote Refinery-backed MRS and other filling stations across Nigeria have increased their retail prices of Premium Motor Spirit (PMS), popularly known as petrol.
A market survey by NEWSMEN on Sunday showed that filling stations in Abuja and its environs raised petrol prices to ₦1,409 per litre from ₦1,370.
The adjustment represents an increase of ₦39 per litre at MRS filling stations over the weekend.
The new price has been implemented at MRS outlets in Kubwa, Katampe, Gwarimpa and other parts of Abuja.
Similarly, Ranoil and AA Rano increased their petrol prices by ₦10 per litre, raising the pump price from ₦1,400 to ₦1,410.
The development comes as the Federal Government, through the Minister of Finance, Taiwo Oyedele, proposed a petrol price discount to ₦1,350 per litre at Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPCL) filling stations.
However, fuel retailers and marketers have called on the Federal Government to extend the proposed discount initiative to other filling stations.
UGAMATV reports that petrol prices had maintained a downward trend in the preceding week.
Meanwhile, Brent crude and West Texas Intermediate (WTI) crude were trading at $104 and $91 per barrel, respectively, according to the report.
