The apex socio-cultural organisation of the Idoma Nation, Ochetoha K’Idoma, has alleged that it alerted the Nigeria Police Force 48 hours before the deadly attack on Otukpo Nobi community in Benue State but that no action was taken to prevent the incident.

In a statement jointly signed by its President General, Prof. Yakubu A. Ochefu, and Secretary General, Chief Paul Edeh, the group said security agencies received specific intelligence indicating that the community was under imminent threat but allegedly failed to act.

The organisation called on the police authorities to explain why the intelligence was not acted upon and demanded accountability from those responsible for security operations in the state.

Ochetoha also raised fresh concerns over reports of suspected armed groups allegedly gathering around the Taraba–Nasarawa and Kogi–Benue border areas, urging security agencies to investigate the claims and take proactive measures to prevent further attacks.

The group rejected claims that the perpetrators of the recent attacks on Otukpo Nobi, Ondo Ogobia and Efeyi communities were unknown, alleging that heavily armed militia fighters carried out coordinated assaults that claimed the lives of several residents, including women and children.

It called on the Federal Government, the Benue State Government and security agencies to reinforce security in vulnerable communities, investigate those behind the attacks, dismantle illegal camps and ensure that those responsible are brought to justice.

Ochetoha maintained that while it remains committed to peaceful coexistence, lasting peace in the region can only be achieved through justice, accountability and the fair enforcement of the law.
