The governorship candidate of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) in Benue State, Herman Hembe, has pledged to serve only one four-year term if elected governor in the 2027 general election.

Hembe made the commitment on Thursday in Makurdi during the official unveiling of his running mate, John Abba, before party supporters and stakeholders.

The event was attended by top party leaders, including the Benue State ADC Chairman, Sam Okwu; the party’s Benue South senatorial candidate, Dr. David Olofu; national and state assembly candidates, former commissioners and former lawmakers.

Addressing party members, Hembe said his decision to serve a single term was driven by the need to promote fairness, equity and power rotation in the state. He noted that Benue South remains the only senatorial district yet to produce a democratically elected governor since the creation of the state.

According to him, allowing another district to produce the governor in 2027 would delay Benue South’s chances of occupying the state’s highest office for another eight years.

Hembe also disclosed that after securing the party’s governorship ticket, he entrusted the selection of his running mate to the party leadership and stakeholders through a transparent consultation process coordinated by the ADC’s national leadership.

He urged party members to support the choice of John Abba and work together to ensure the victory of all ADC candidates in the 2027 elections.

The governorship candidate stressed that the party was contesting all elective positions, noting that effective governance would require the support of senators, members of the House of Representatives and the Benue State House of Assembly.

Expressing confidence in the party’s chances, Hembe said the ADC has credible candidates capable of winning elections without entering political alliances. He also predicted victory for the party’s presidential candidate, Atiku Abubakar, in the 2027 presidential election.

Hembe further promised to grant full financial and administrative autonomy to the state’s 23 local government councils if elected, saying the move would strengthen grassroots governance, improve security and accelerate community development.

Speaking at the event, the ADC’s Benue South senatorial candidate, Dr. David Olofu, expressed confidence in the quality of the party’s candidates and their ability to earn the support of the people of Benue State.
