A fresh disruption in Nigeria’s aviation sector has been averted after the Air Transport Services Senior Staff Association of Nigeria (ATSSSAN) suspended its planned industrial action against Air Peace.
The decision followed a meeting between the union’s leadership and the Inspector General of Police, Olatunji Disu, in Abuja.
In a statement, ATSSSAN General Secretary, Frances Akinjole, said the police appealed to both parties to maintain peace while investigating the union’s August 11 picketing, which disrupted Air Peace operations.
Akinjole said the union presented its account of the incident and that the police promised to meet with other individuals and organisations mentioned in the petition submitted by Air Peace’s lawyer, including the airline itself.
Recall that workers’ industrial action on August 11 grounded Air Peace flight operations nationwide before government intervention.
