The Abia State House of Assembly has expressed concern over the prolonged power outage affecting communities served by Aba Power Limited, describing the situation as a major setback for residents and businesses.

The blackout, which has impacted households, artisans and manufacturers across Aba and other areas under the company’s coverage, was attributed by Aba Power Limited to challenges with gas supply.

In response to the outage, the Chairman of the House Committee on Power and Public Utilities, Aaron Uzodike, alongside committee member Stephen Ucheonye, visited the headquarters of Aba Power Limited to obtain firsthand information on the cause of the disruption.

The lawmakers said they were deeply concerned about the economic and social impact of the blackout, noting that businesses and industries cannot operate effectively without a stable electricity supply.

Responding to the lawmakers, Chairman of Aba Power Limited, Professor Barth Nnaji, explained that the outage resulted from the inability of the company’s gas supplier to deliver gas following damage to critical equipment, including the switchgear and starter motor used in its operations.

Nnaji appealed to customers for patience and assured them that electricity supply would be restored once gas supply resumes.

Uzodike assured residents that the House Committee would continue to monitor the situation closely to ensure that power is restored as quickly as possible, stressing that reliable electricity remains essential for economic growth and industrial development in the state.
