The Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU), Ambrose Alli University (AAU), Ekpoma chapter, has declared an indefinite strike over the alleged failure of the Edo State Government and university management to implement the 2025 Federal Government-ASUU agreement.
The industrial action is scheduled to begin at 12:01 a.m. on Tuesday, August 25, 2026, following the expiration of a 14-day ultimatum previously issued to the Edo State Government and the university authorities.
The decision was reached during an ASUU congress meeting on Monday, according to a statement signed by the branch Chairman, Dr Cyril Oziegbe Onogbosele, and Secretary, Dr William Odion.
The union said several attempts to secure the implementation of the agreement had failed, adding that neither the university management nor the state government had formally responded to its ultimatum.
ASUU said the 2025 FGN/ASUU Agreement remains unimplemented at the university, with no formal commitment from the relevant authorities to address the issue.
Union lists demands
The union’s demands include:
- Implementation of the 2025 Federal Government-ASUU Agreement at AAU.
- Payment of accrued allowance arrears from January 2026 to date.
ASUU said its members would completely withdraw their statutory services during the strike.
The action will affect teaching and lectures, as well as the conduct and supervision of examinations, including undergraduate and postgraduate examinations, oral examinations, Computer-Based Examinations (CBE) and paper-based examinations.
It will also affect statutory meetings at the departmental, faculty and Senate levels, as well as committee meetings.
Other suspended activities include student research project supervision and supervision of Industrial Training (IT) and Teaching Practice.
The union further directed its executive committee to intensify engagement with the media through press conferences and statements over the dispute.
It also ordered the activation of its Strike Monitoring Team and urged members to strictly comply with the resolutions of the congress.
The development is expected to disrupt academic activities at Ambrose Alli University until the union and the Edo State Government reach an agreement on the outstanding issues.
