Nollywood actress and filmmaker Funke Akindele has faced criticism from some Nigerians after sharing birthday photos online shortly after the death and burial of veteran actor Ogogo.
Ogogo died on Sunday, August 23, 2026, following a prolonged battle with cancer. He was buried on Monday, August 24, according to Islamic burial rites.
Akindele had earlier expressed her condolences following Ogogo’s death on Sunday. However, she shared new photos on Monday to mark her 49th birthday.
Her birthday posts attracted criticism in the comment section, with some Nigerians accusing her of being insensitive because they coincided with the death and burial of a prominent figure in the Nigerian film industry.
Some commenters reminded Akindele of Ogogo’s contribution to the industry and his alleged impact on her career, while others questioned why she did not postpone her public birthday celebration.
One commenter described the timing as “wrong,” while another urged the actress to dedicate the day to mourning Ogogo.
