Enugu State is strengthening its position as a hub for technology manufacturing following a visit by the Executive Vice Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of the Nigerian Communications Commission, NCC, Dr. Aminu Maida, to the Enugu Haier Factory.

The visit provided an opportunity to inspect the state’s growing investment in local technology production, with the facility designed to manufacture a wide range of digital and technological products.

With an annual production capacity of up to 200,000 units, the factory is expected to produce smartphones, tablets, computers, smart boards, television sets, medical technologies and renewable-energy solutions.

The development is also receiving regulatory support, as the NCC has committed to facilitating the necessary approvals and licensing required for the facility to gain recognition as a local information technology product manufacturer.

Such recognition is expected to enable the factory to benefit from applicable incentives while creating opportunities for the expansion of its products into export markets.

The investment aligns with the vision of the Enugu State Government, under Governor Dr. Peter Ndubuisi Mbah, to move the state beyond technology consumption towards local production, innovation and digital economic development.

The initiative is expected to create jobs, develop technical skills among young people and strengthen Enugu’s capacity to contribute to Nigeria’s growing digital economy.

The state government says the development reflects its broader commitment to transforming Enugu into a centre for technology, innovation and industrial production.
