More than 500 people living with kidney-related illnesses converged at Parklane in Enugu on Thursday, August 13, 2026, in search of assistance, as many families continue to struggle with the high cost of treatment.

The patients, including men, women, and children, reportedly gathered following a call by Social media activist Okwuluora, hoping to receive support from a philanthropist who was expected to assist those in need.

Some patients, who are said to require regular dialysis, arrived with visible signs of prolonged illness, while families described the financial burden of sustaining treatment as overwhelming.

Among those at the gathering was a 13-year-old boy from Akure, Ondo State, whose mother has reportedly sold virtually all she owns to finance his dialysis treatment over the past five years.

Despite the years of sacrifice, the boy was among those waiting at Parklane in the hope of receiving assistance.

The large turnout has once again highlighted the growing burden of kidney disease and the enormous financial challenges faced by patients requiring dialysis and other forms of kidney care.

Families at the gathering are appealing for greater support from government, organisations and well-meaning individuals to help patients access life-saving treatment.
