The National Chairman of the People’s Redemption Party (PRP), Hakeem Baba-Ahmed, has accused northern leaders of failing to protect the interests of the region under President Bola Tinubu’s administration.

Baba-Ahmed alleged that the North is allowing the President to transfer what belongs to the region to the South-West because many northern political leaders have aligned themselves with his administration.

He made the allegation during an interview with Symfoni TV, where he expressed concern over the worsening insecurity and killings across several northern states.

According to him, northern leaders who should speak out against policies affecting the region have instead chosen to support the President.

“Tinubu is taking away what the North owned to the South-West because the North is not resisting. The North is not resisting because the people who should resist have capitulated,” he said.

Baba-Ahmed further criticised the large number of northern governors elected on the platform of the All Progressives Congress (APC), saying their political alignment with Tinubu has weakened their ability to challenge the President on issues affecting the region.

He noted that 18 of the 32 APC governors are from the North, with Bauchi State Governor Bala Mohammed being the only northern governor outside the ruling party.

He questioned who would challenge the President over the deteriorating security situation in the region.

“Who is to tell Tinubu that something is wrong with their brother? Please do something in the North. They wouldn’t dare,” he lamented.

The PRP chairman warned that continued political support for Tinubu without demanding solutions to insecurity and other challenges could have serious consequences for the North.
