The presidential running mate of the Nigeria Democratic Congress, NDC, Rabiu Kwankwaso, has said President Bola Ahmed Tinubu practises a Muslim-Christian power-sharing arrangement in his home with First Lady Oluremi Tinubu.

Kwankwaso made the remark while reacting to comments by Islamic cleric Sani Jingir, who called on Nigerian Muslims to support the All Progressives Congress, APC, Muslim-Muslim ticket in the 2027 presidential election.

Jingir, while speaking in Kano, had expressed his continued support for the Muslim-Muslim ticket, saying he was ready to back the arrangement again as he did during the 2023 election.

Reacting during an interview with DCL Hausa, Kwankwaso described President Tinubu as a politician who values balance and fairness.

He said Tinubu had, during his time as governor of Lagos State, supported political arrangements involving both Muslims and Christians, noting that his deputies were Christians.

Kwankwaso further argued that the President’s own household reflects a Muslim-Christian pairing, referring to Tinubu and his wife, Oluremi.

He said the President’s political record demonstrated that he understood the importance of religious balance and inclusion.

The former Kano State governor made the comments amid renewed debate over the possibility of another Muslim-Muslim presidential ticket ahead of the 2027 general elections.
