Former President Goodluck Jonathan has been installed as the Jigon Bauchi by the Bauchi Emirate Council in recognition of his contributions to democracy, peace and national unity.

The title was conferred on Jonathan on Tuesday by the Emir of Bauchi, Dr. Rilwanu Sulaiman Adamu, during a colourful turbaning ceremony held at the Emir’s Palace in Bauchi.

Bauchi State Governor, Bala Mohammed, led a delegation of government officials, political associates and other dignitaries to the palace for the ceremony, where Jonathan was formally invested with the traditional title.

Speaking at the event, Governor Mohammed thanked the Emir for honouring the former president, describing the recognition as a reflection of Jonathan’s contributions to democratic governance and peaceful coexistence in Nigeria.

He said Jonathan’s leadership and commitment to national stability had earned him widespread respect beyond political and regional boundaries.

In his remarks, Jonathan expressed appreciation to the Emir and the people of Bauchi State for the honour, describing the title as a privilege he would cherish.

The former president pledged to respect the customs and traditions of the Bauchi Emirate Council and uphold the values associated with the title.

Conferring the title, the Emir described Jonathan as an exemplary leader whose conduct in public office and commitment to peace had distinguished him.

The ceremony was attended by traditional rulers, title holders, government officials, political leaders and other dignitaries from Bauchi State and beyond.
