Dangote Petroleum Refinery and Petrochemicals has reinforced its growing global presence after emerging as Europe’s largest supplier of jet fuel for the second consecutive month, surpassing the United States in aviation fuel exports to the region.
According to the latest European import data compiled by global commodities intelligence firm Kpler, the 700,000-barrel-per-day Dangote Refinery exported more than 400,000 tonnes of jet fuel to Europe in July. The volume accounted for about 20 per cent of the continent’s total jet fuel imports during the month.
The July performance follows an even stronger showing in June, when the refinery exported a record 466,000 tonnes of jet fuel to Europe, making Nigeria the region’s leading external supplier for the first time.
Europe imported approximately 2.06 million tonnes of jet fuel in July, with Dangote accounting for the largest share of those imports, ahead of traditional suppliers from the United States and the Middle East.
Industry analysts say the refinery is reshaping global fuel trade by providing European buyers with a reliable and competitive alternative to long-established suppliers. Its strategic location on Nigeria’s Atlantic coast, combined with modern refining technology and large-scale production capacity, has strengthened its position in the international aviation fuel market.
The refinery’s export growth has also been supported by increased production. Jet fuel loadings at the Lekki export terminal reached a record 550,000 tonnes in June, while crude oil deliveries to the refinery rose to an all-time high of 660,000 barrels per day, boosting its ability to meet growing international demand.
The achievement comes amid changing global energy supply patterns, with market uncertainties around the Strait of Hormuz encouraging European buyers to diversify their sources of aviation fuel. This has further positioned Dangote Refinery as a dependable supplier to the European market.
Beyond aviation fuel, the refinery has continued to expand exports of diesel, petrol and other refined petroleum products to Europe, Africa and other international markets, strengthening Nigeria’s status as a major exporter of value-added petroleum products.
