A South African woman has shared how marrying a Nigerian man completely changed her long-held perception of Nigerian women.

In a viral video, she admitted that she once believed Nigerian women were controlling, impatient, loud and primarily interested in money. However, she said her experience with her husband’s family and other Nigerian women challenged those stereotypes.

She described her Nigerian mother-in-law as kind, caring and supportive, revealing that she was treated “like a princess” and was not allowed to do house chores or lift heavy objects during and after her pregnancy.

The woman also said she met several successful Nigerian women in Canada, including entrepreneurs and professionals, whose character and achievements further changed her perspective.

According to her, those personal experiences made her realise that the negative stereotypes she once believed did not reflect the reality of many Nigerian women.

She concluded by saying Nigerian women deserve greater recognition and appreciation for their strength, kindness and accomplishments.
