The Yobe State Emergency Management Agency (SEMA) has confirmed that heavy rainfall and flash flooding have impacted several communities in Damaturu, Nguru, Machina and Bursari Local Government Areas of the state.

In a flash flood incident report released on Sunday, the agency said it received multiple distress calls from community leaders, security agencies and local government authorities after torrential rains triggered widespread flooding across the affected areas.

According to SEMA, the affected communities include Moduri, Abbari Sabon Kwalta, Malari Sabon Kwalta, Pompomari, Sumsumma, Nayinawa and nearby areas in Damaturu LGA. In Nguru LGA, New Side, Best Center, Balanguwa Road and several communities across nine wards were also affected.

The agency added that Turbangini and Dinani/Lawanti Ward in Bursari LGA, as well as Alhaji Madi Street, Hausari and Machina town in Machina LGA, were among the areas impacted by the floods.

SEMA noted that the list includes only communities that have been officially reported and verified, stressing that additional affected locations may be confirmed as ongoing assessments continue.

Preliminary findings indicate that several homes sustained varying degrees of damage, while the number of affected households, displaced persons and possible injuries is still being assessed.

The agency assured residents that comprehensive assessment reports would be released to support emergency response and recovery efforts.

It also advised residents to remain indoors during heavy rainfall, avoid unnecessary travel, and stay away from flood-prone areas, riverbanks, drainage channels and other low-lying locations throughout the rainy season.
