The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, has cautioned governors and other members of the All Progressives Congress (APC) Presidential Campaign Council against claiming victory in the 2027 presidential election if they cannot deliver their states for President Bola Tinubu.

Wike issued the warning on Wednesday during the inauguration of the APC Presidential Campaign Council in Abuja, shortly after his appointment as coordinator for the FCT and Rivers State.

He stressed that every member of the council must focus on securing Tinubu’s re-election, irrespective of their positions within the campaign team.

The FCT minister pledged to mobilise support for Tinubu in Rivers State and Abuja.

“By the grace of God, Rivers and FCT will vote massively for Bola Ahmed Tinubu,” he said.

Wike also commended Anambra State Governor, Chukwuma Soludo, and Osun State Governor, Ademola Adeleke, for attending the inauguration, noting that their presence demonstrated growing support for Tinubu ahead of the 2027 election.

He further defended the administration’s performance, arguing that previous governments had identified Nigeria’s problems without providing solutions.

According to Wike, democracy requires an opposition that identifies genuine challenges and offers solutions rather than criticising the government simply because it is in power.

He warned campaign council members against taking credit for victory without delivering electoral support in their respective states.

“I want to say, if you don’t deliver your states and the president wins, don’t say we’ve won. It’s not a question of whether I am chairman, secretary or member of this. What is important is for the president to win,” he said.

Wike added that the same standard should apply to Lagos State.

“I told the Chief of Staff to the President, if the president doesn’t win in Lagos, don’t say we’ve won,” he added.
