Ocho Obodoeze promises to engage Ogige Nsukka demolition victims, address their concerns and support them in rebuilding their livelihoods if elected governor; party vows to strengthen grassroots structures across Enugu State.

The African Democratic Congress (ADC) has intensified preparations for the 2027 Enugu State governorship election, setting an ambitious target of securing 54 per cent of the votes in Enugu North Senatorial Zone as party leaders converge on Nsukka for the final verification of its executive structures.

The party’s governorship candidate, Ocho Obodoeze, is banking on strengthened grassroots mobilisation, improved party organisation and renewed engagement with residents to consolidate the ADC’s political presence across the state ahead of the crucial 2027 electoral contest.

The development comes as the party concludes its verification exercise for ward, polling booth, local government and state executive members in Enugu North Senatorial Zone on Wednesday, October 14, 2026.

In a statement signed by the Enugu State Secretary of the ADC, Comrade AC Ude, the party disclosed that members of its state and local government working committees were converging on Nsukka for the final stage of the verification exercise.

According to the statement, the exercise forms part of the party’s efforts to strengthen its organisational structures, verify its leadership framework and enhance coordination across the various levels of its political operations.

ADC Expresses Confidence in Grassroots Mobilisation

Comrade Ude expressed confidence in the party’s level of preparedness, assuring members and supporters that the necessary arrangements were being made to reinforce its structures across Enugu North Senatorial Zone.

The verification exercise is expected to support the party’s wider political mobilisation strategy as it works towards its stated target of winning 54 per cent of the votes in the zone during the 2027 governorship election.

With the election approaching, the ADC’s focus on its ward, polling booth and local government structures signals its determination to build an organised grassroots network capable of translating its political ambitions into electoral support.

However, the party’s 54 per cent target remains an electoral objective, with its eventual performance to be determined by voter participation, campaign effectiveness and the outcome of the election.

Obodoeze Promises Engagement and Support for Ogige Nsukka Demolition Victims

Beyond its organisational preparations, the ADC has also placed the plight of traders and supporters whose properties were demolished at Ogige Nsukka at the centre of its political message.

The party expressed appreciation to those affected by the demolitions and acknowledged the difficulties faced by traders whose commercial activities and livelihoods were disrupted.

According to the statement, Obodoeze has promised that, if elected governor of Enugu State in 2027, he would engage the affected traders, listen to their concerns and work to address the pain and hardship caused by the demolitions.

He also pledged to assist them in every possible way within his capacity to help them rebuild their livelihoods and regain their trust and confidence in government.

The proposed intervention, as presented by the party, is intended to support affected traders, restore their means of livelihood and provide practical assistance as they work to recover from the disruption to their businesses.

The promise introduces an important economic and social welfare dimension to the ADC’s emerging campaign message, particularly among traders, small business owners and residents concerned about the protection of livelihoods and responsive governance.

The proposal, however, remains a campaign commitment and would depend on its implementation if the candidate wins the governorship election.

ADC Vows to Challenge What It Calls Tyranny and Victimisation

The party also used the occasion to reiterate its determination to challenge what it described as an era of tyranny and victimisation in Enugu State.

Although the statement did not provide further details or specific examples to substantiate those characterisations, the declaration signals the ADC’s intention to make governance, accountability, citizens’ welfare and the treatment of ordinary residents prominent issues in its political engagement ahead of 2027.

The party’s position also reflects its attempt to connect its electoral ambitions with concerns affecting communities, traders and other residents across the state.

Whether this message will translate into broader voter support remains to be seen as political parties begin positioning themselves for the next governorship election.

A Crucial Test Ahead of 2027

The conclusion of the verification exercise in Enugu North represents another step in the ADC’s preparations for the forthcoming election.

For Obodoeze and the party leadership, achieving the 54 per cent target in the senatorial zone will require more than internal verification. It will also depend on sustained grassroots engagement, credible policy proposals, effective campaign coordination and the ability to convince voters that the party can deliver on its promises.

Obodoeze’s pledge to engage Ogige Nsukka demolition victims, address their concerns and support them in rebuilding their livelihoods could become a significant talking point in the party’s engagement with traders and affected communities, while the verification exercise is expected to contribute to the coordination of its political structures.

As the 2027 governorship contest draws closer, the ADC faces the task of converting its organisational preparations and campaign commitments into measurable voter confidence.

For now, the party is signalling its readiness to expand its political reach in Enugu North, strengthen its grassroots presence and position Ocho Obodoeze as a contender in the race for Enugu Government House.

The central question remains whether the ADC can turn its ambitious 54 per cent target into actual votes when Enugu State goes to the polls in 2027.

Signed:

Comrade AC Ude
State Secretary
African Democratic Congress (ADC), Enugu State.
