The Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) has announced the collapse of three transmission towers along the Karu-Keffi-Akwanga 132 Kilovolt (kV) line corridor following heavy rainfall.

TCN disclosed this in a statement issued in Abuja on Thursday.

According to the company, Towers T78, T79 and T80 collapsed, leaving all 33kV outgoing feeders at the 132/33kV Keffi and 132/33kV Akwanga transmission substations unavailable.

TCN said the incident occurred at about 4:06 p.m. on Wednesday when the 132kV Karu-Keffi-Akwanga single-circuit transmission line tripped on overcurrent relay protection during the rainfall.

“Investigations revealed that three transmission towers had collapsed and TCN promptly isolated for safety,” the company said.

It added that no load could be nominated on the affected feeders until further notice.

TCN said its engineers were already at the site assessing the extent of the damage and determining the requirements for restoration.

The company apologised to electricity customers affected by the development, assuring them that efforts were underway to complete the necessary repairs and restore bulk power supply as quickly as possible.

TCN said it would provide further updates as restoration work progresses.
