An honour to a servant-leader and a testament to the enduring impact of collective service➖➖➖➖➖➖

The Nigerian Medical Association (NMA), Enugu State, most proudly celebrates its Immediate Past Chairman, Rtn. Dr. Sunday Okafor, following the conferment on him of an Award for Distinguished Contribution to Healthcare and Community Health Advocacy by the Isi-Uzo Local Government Area.

The prestigious award, presented at the Isi-Uzo Local Government Headquarters, Ikem, on Tuesday, 29 September 2026, recognised Dr. Okafor’s outstanding contributions to healthcare advocacy, professional leadership and the improvement of health outcomes for communities across Enugu State.

The ceremony formed part of the official commissioning of projects, valedictory ceremony and award programme organized by the administration of the Executive Chairman of Isi-Uzo LGA, Hon. Obiora Obeagu. The projects were commissioned by the Deputy Governor of Enugu State, His Excellency, Barr. Ifeanyi Ossai, who ably represented the Executive Governor, His Excellency, Dr. Peter Ndubuisi Mbah.

Dr. Okafor received the honour in the company of a high-powered delegation from NMA Enugu State comprising the Chairman, Dr. Chima Edoga; Deputy Chairman, Dr. Christian Ozor; and Publicity Secretary, Dr. Benjamin Agbo.

For NMA Enugu State, this recognition is both personal and collective. It bears eloquent testimony to the impact made under Dr. Okafor’s administration and to the dedication of the entire team that worked with him. His tenure was founded on the conviction that a medical association must be more than a professional platform: it must be a moral voice for the vulnerable, a bridge between healthcare professionals and government, and a dependable instrument for improving the health and wellbeing of society.

Under his leadership, the Association strengthened professional solidarity, expanded community-oriented health interventions, deepened constructive engagement with government and other stakeholders, and consistently placed the welfare of doctors and the health needs of the people at the centre of its activities. Isi-Uzo was among the communities that felt the tangible impact of this collective commitment.

This honour reminds us that leadership is not ultimately measured by the titles one holds or the length of time spent in office, but by the lives touched, institutions strengthened and hope restored. Titles may pass, but meaningful service leaves footprints that time cannot erase.

The presence of the current NMA leadership alongside the Immediate Past Chairman was also a powerful demonstration of institutional continuity, professional brotherhood and shared purpose. It affirms that this award is not merely a celebration of one individual, but an acknowledgement of what a medical organization can accomplish when its members work together with vision, compassion and courage.

NMA Enugu State therefore warmly congratulates Rtn. Dr. Sunday Okafor on this well-deserved honour. His life of service to the Association, humanity and God remains a source of inspiration to the medical profession and a compelling reminder that the highest reward of leadership is the positive difference it makes in the lives of others.

We appreciate the Executive Chairman and the good people of Isi-Uzo Local Government Area for recognising a worthy ambassador of the medical profession and, through him, the collective contributions of NMA Enugu State.

Congratulations, our Immediate Past Chairman🎉🎉🎉. NMA Enugu State celebrates your legacy, is inspired by your example and remains committed to building upon the foundations laid under your administration.

Signed:
Dr. Benjamin Agbo

Publicity Secretary, NMA, Enugu State
