The African Democratic Congress (ADC) has said the outcome of the 2027 presidential election will be determined by Nigerians and not by the personal opinion of former President Olusegun Obasanjo.
In a statement issued by its National Publicity Secretary, Mallam Bolaji Abdullahi, the party accused the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) of focusing on Obasanjo’s remarks about the ADC’s presidential candidate, Atiku Abubakar, instead of addressing concerns over the country’s economic and security challenges.
According to the ADC, Nigerians will base their voting decisions on their daily experiences, including the rising cost of living, insecurity, unemployment and the state of the economy.
The party also criticised the APC for allegedly attacking critics rather than responding to issues affecting citizens, arguing that public concerns about governance should not be dismissed.
Reacting to Obasanjo’s comments, the ADC acknowledged the former president’s right to express his personal views but maintained that such opinions do not define Atiku Abubakar’s record in public office.
The opposition party further challenged the Federal Government to explain the continued rise in food prices, growing poverty, increasing unemployment, higher public debt and persistent insecurity despite claims of economic progress.
The ADC insisted that the 2027 presidential election would ultimately be decided by the choices of Nigerians based on the realities they face, rather than the views of any individual.
